New nests for old birds – Globe & Mail – November 17, 2004
This was the cover story of the Globe’s travel section. I have spent a lot of time in non-touristy parts of Mexico and found small enclaves of Canadians and Americans living in small coastal towns. They are, for the most part, typical snowbirds who split their time between a Canadian or American home and a tropical home, but I wanted to find out why they chose such a non-traditional location like a small Mexican fishing village.
Seeking the seekers – A Day in My Life – Spotlight Magazine – March 2008
This was a really fun profile to write. Jon Martin is a single man, but he’s also a priest. This profile in Spotlight Magazine looked into an “average” day in Jon’s life.
This was a piece I wrote while still in university. I grew up in Canada, so a large supermarket with endless supplies of goods is my norm. This piece examines what some New Canadians think of Canadian cuisine and how it compares to what they are used to in their home countries. Sadly, I think I agree with the headline.
