Hello!
Hi, I’m Julie. Je m’appelle Julie. Me llamo Julie.
In a nutshell
West coast transplant. Journalist by trade. Community minded. Big fan of sports, art and music. Keeper of many books. Aspiring / fumbling polyglot. Probably drinking coffee.
Where it began
Some kids play house. I played newsroom. As a young girl, I convinced my friends that it would be fun to create a newspaper. They lost interest pretty quickly, so soon it was just me cranking out handwritten papers with compelling articles about the neighbour’s dog.
The professional side
My commitment to the news didn’t waver. Many years later I ended up at Carleton University where I earned my Bachelor of Journalism degree. I’ve been creating content ever since. My articles, photos and multimedia have appeared online and in publications like The Globe & Mail, Ottawa Citizen, Spotlight Magazine and Business Spotlight Magazine.
Realizing the impact that storytelling has on a community, I took my skills and experience to the charitable sector, in both marketing and communications roles and development and fundraising positions.
A strategic and innovative communications professional, I have worked with many non-profit organizations including the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, Roberts/Smart Centre, Paralympic Foundation of Canada and Nutrition International.
My strengths in stakeholder engagement and project management with an entrepreneurial lens have bolstered my impact across diverse sectors including media, financial services and law.
Outside of work
You can likely find me flexing my trivia muscles or exploring local cycling and hiking paths, record stores and restaurants.
